The History of Uhlenberg Haulage

Uhlenberg Haulage was founded in 1966 by Mike and Carol Uhlenberg.

Work in the early days consisted mainly of carting metal for Ministry of Works roading projects in North Taranaki.

A move to Eltham in 1971, where they are still based today, saw the business diversify into the cartage of logs, metal, fertiliser and other commodities required by the rural community.

LPG was first carried by Uhlenbergs from the Kapuni field in 1972, this work is 65% of the workload today, with LPG bulk products distributed for clients throughout the North Island. LPG tankers are based at Eltham, Hamilton and Auckland depots.

The 1990’s saw Uhlenbergs diversify further into cartage of refrigerated products, which has resulted in a partnership with clients for whom UHL shift export beef and lamb products throughout the central and southern North Island regions. In the mid  2000's Uhlenbergs ventured back into container haulage, in both local and linehaul operations. Local cartage also includes metal, fertiliser, palm kernel, general freight as well as heavy machine shifts such as bulldozers, diggers and suchlike.

The company is 100% locally owned and operated by second generation brothers, Chris, Daryl and Tony Uhlenberg.
